12 July 2023
On Tuesday 11 July 2023, the second meeting of the Crown Dependency Climate Summit took place.
This twice-yearly event, held virtually via Teams, was attended by representatives from Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and the Isle of Man.
Deputy Hilary Jeune, Jersey's Minister for Energy and Climate Change, who leads on climate change and chaired the meeting, said: "The meeting provides an opportunity for representatives from the islands to discuss areas of common interest, examine the challenges that we all face in our journey to net zero, and to swap learning and best practice on how we can best achieve our environmental goals."
As well as an update on initiatives across the islands, the items discussed included the significant costs of not acting on climate change, the challenges of financing net zero in the face of cost of living pressures and the possibilities of harnessing power from offshore wind.
Those attending the meeting alongside Deputy Jeune were Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, President of Guernsey's Committee for the Environment and Infrastructure, Daphne Caine MHK, Chair of the Isle of Man Climate Change Board, and Bill Abel, Member of the States of Alderney.
The next meeting is being planned for the end of this year.
