Free period products pilot scheme continues to expand with new locations

30 November 2023

Following the launch of Jersey's free period products scheme in October last year, further locations have been added to the list of venues where products are available.

These newest locations include Le Bas Centre and the Butterfly Café, as well as the following Co-op pharmacies:

  • Co-op Bath St Pharmacy, 87-91 Bath St, St Helier
  • Co-op New Era Pharmacy, Victoria Road, St Clement
  • Co-op St Helier Grand Marche Pharmacy (within Co-op store), La Rue Le Masurier, St Helier
  • Co-op St Peter Grand Marche Pharmacy (within Co-op store), Route de L'Eglise, St Peter

These additional locations continue to strengthen the range of places where products are available. Women are encouraged to take full boxes of products if that is what they need. The pilot scheme is designed to enable people to take whatever they need, whenever they need it. In addition, larger dispensers have been ordered for a few central town locations where demand is higher.

Minister for Social Security, Deputy Elaine Millar, said: "These latest venues are great additions to the already strong list of locations across the Island and give even more choice and ease of access to period products. We began the scheme with products available within some Government buildings, which continue to offer a wider range of product choice. In addition, we have also listened to feedback and made more products available at our libraries and all of our sports centres, which are used more by the general public. All products will continue to be placed in both female and male toilets, as this approach ensures that anyone can access them either for themselves, their children, partner, or people they might care for."

Mark Cox, Co-op Chief Executive, said: "We are thrilled to announce The Co-op's wholehearted support for the Government's initiative to ensure universal access to free period products. Through our extensive network of pharmacy stores, we are committed to playing a key role in making these essential products readily available to those who need them. By providing free period products, we are not just meeting a basic need but actively participating in the creation of a more equitable and supportive community. We look forward to working hand in hand with the Government to make a positive impact and improving the access to these products."

At this stage, this scheme remains a pilot and will continue to be adapted through insight and feedback. Islanders can give direct feedback on this scheme, as well as any Government services, at gov.je/feedback.
