Jersey’s Life Expectancy Report for 2020-22

Public Health Jersey has published Jersey's Life Expectancy Report for 2020-22.

The report details life expectancy in Jersey for the period 2020-2022 and compares this to historical data, looks at trends over time and neighbouring jurisdictions.

Period life expectancy at a given age for an area is the average number of years a person would live, if he or she experienced the particular area's age-specific mortality rates for that time period throughout his or her life.

Key findings for the 2020-2022 period:

  • life expectancy (at birth) for females in Jersey was 84.9 years, around 3 years higher than that for males (81.8 years)
  • male life expectancy has increased by 2.8 years since the 2010-2012 period, while for females it has increased by 1.3 years
  • once people reach age 65 in Jersey, they can expect to live on average another 21.4 years
  • average life expectancy in Jersey was around 2 years higher than that for England overall, and was around 1 year higher than the South West region of England
