Almost 60 Island charities and businesses are to attend Jersey Children’s Day at Howard
Davis Park on Sunday, 7 July 2024, from 11am to 5pm.
The annual event is dedicated to recognising and celebrating Jersey’s children and young
people and advocating for their well-being and rights. The 2024 edition will feature free
activities for the community to enjoy, alongside performances from youth performers on
the park stage throughout the day.
NSPCC Jersey and Safeguarding Partnership Board will be attending Children’s Day to
share important safeguarding messages and support children and young people to stay
safe, both on and offline, before the launch of a new safeguarding campaign later this year.
NSPCC Jersey will also be joined by Pantosaurus, who will meet children and parents and remind everyone of important Talk PANTS rules, relating to sexual abuse.
A quiet hour will be held from 10am–11am, for children and young people who might
prefer to enjoy the activities in a less crowded environment.
The popular Jersey Youth Service zorbs, Jersey Youth Arts, Jersey Sport and States of Jersey
Police will be in attendance on the day as well as a number of entertainers, face painters
and performers offering fun and engaging activities.
Invitations to children and young people will be distributed through nurseries, schools,
colleges, and home school students. There will be discounted food and drinks stalls and we
encourage families to bring a picnic with no glass or alcohol.
Cheyenne O’Connor, of the Butterfly Effect, which represents survivors of abuse, said:
“Jersey Children’s Day is an opportunity to ensure that lessons learnt from the Independent
Jersey Care Inquiry are never forgotten. It is not only a day to remember the Island’s past
but a day to look forward to brighter futures. The Children’s Day event team have worked
hard behind the scenes and this family fun day is a true example of the community coming
together for our children, young people, and families.”
The Minister for Children and Families, Constable Richard Vibert, said: “Jersey Children’s
Day is a wonderful opportunity to show our appreciation for the young people in our
community. It is a day to celebrate their achievements, support their aspirations, and
ensure their voices are heard. We are committed to creating an environment where every
child in Jersey can thrive.”
Katherine McGovern, Partnership Service Manager at NSPCC Jersey, said: “We are really
looking forward to being at Jersey Children’s Day once again. We have fun activities
planned, as well as appearances from our friendly dinosaur Pantosaurus throughout the
day, so we hope children, parents and carers will come to see us and chat about how we
can keep more children safe, both on and offline. Our new online safety campaign will be
launching later this year, so parents have a chance to tell us what support they need and
how they want to receive it through interactive activities on the day.”
