Social, Emotional and Mental Health Inclusion Team
Our vision is where every child and young person living in Jersey with social, emotional, and mental health needs is given the support they need to thrive in school and in life. We are committed to providing high quality professional development and training to educators on topics such as:
- trauma-informed care
- mental health and well-being
- positive behaviour support
- social-emotional learning
We work with schools to develop and implement Social, Emotional and Mental Health Inclusion Team (SEMH) policies and programs that are responsive to the needs of their students.
We work with other professionals, families, and community agencies to ensure continuity of care.
We are committed to monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of our programs and services, while keeping up to date with current research and best practices in the field of SEMH education.
Our goal is to help every child and young person with SEMH needs to enjoy school life, be given opportunities that enable them to flourish and grow and reach their full potential.
The team can provide support in a number of ways. The following are examples of approaches the team might use in working with your child:
- observations in school (in the classroom or playground) to support school staff in their management of behaviour
- ensure the pupil voice is at the heart of all decisions
- working with school staff and pupils to agree and set targets to support their SEMH needs
- assessments to identify child’s strengths and difficulties and inform individual plans
- supporting schools to write and implement consistent management plans, relational plans, trauma informed plans, safer handling plans and pastoral support plans
- support with transitions, for example, a change of class or change of school
- support school’s on how to set up and run a nurture group
