Who we are
Child Accident Prevention Jersey is a Family Nursing and Home Care initiative. It's supported by representatives from many organisations, which include:
- Family Nursing and Home Care
- Education
- Fire and Rescue Service
- Ambulance Service
- Jersey Child Care Trust
- Headway
- Jersey Coastguard
- Health and Social Services
- Trading Standards
- Department for Infrastructure
- Police
- The Bosdet Foundation
- St John Ambulance
- volunteers
We want every child to explore, play, have fun and get muddy in the process, to develop and reach their full potential. We believe it is the right of every child to grow up in an environment that keeps them safe from serious injury, disability or death.
We also believe that a balanced approach to assessing the risks and benefits of an action reduces the number of children failing to become healthy, happy adults because of an unintentional injury in childhood.
For safety advice or more information about Child Accident Prevention Jersey, contact CAPJ or visit the Child Accident Prevention Jersey website.
What we do
We offer visits to every island primary school at various stages of a child’s education. We talk to them about topics including:
- dog safety
- trampoline safety
- drowning prevention
- cycle helmets
- sun safety
- home safety
- fire prevention
- first aid
- burn prevention
- seat belt wearing
- beach safety
- road safety
- kitchen safety
We are available to nurseries and playgroups to talk to parents and / or younger children upon request. We provide home safety advice in three languages.
We can provide subsidised home safety equipment including stairgates and harness reins at the request of a families Health Visitor.
We have also run campaigns focusing on fall prevention, blind cord safety, fire work safety and swimming pool safety.
We facilitate a biennial conference for parents, child-carers and other professionals focusing on preventing accidents in children.
Child Accident Prevention also looks at data from our General Hospital to identify any trends in accidents and to ensure that the campaigns we run remain current and necessary.
