Proud of you (for picking up my poo) campaign

About the campaign

Some dog owners still don’t pick up after their dog.

This campaign aims to educate people to be responsible owners and always pick up their dog's poo.

Help reduce the dog poo problem

Dog owners get a bad name because some don't pick up after their dog.

To help you can:

  • set the example and always pick up after your dog
  • put a campaign sticker on your bin if you're happy for bagged up poo to be put in your bin
  • make sure your dog goes for a poo before you let it off the lead for a run
  • carry extra poo bags and offer them to others that may need them
  • avoid walking your dog in playgrounds and on sports pitches
  • share the message and help to educate others
  • keep your dog out of fields where cattle graze

You can display a campaign poster in your window.

Report dog mess

You can download the Love Jersey app on your mobile. The report will be sent to the relevant department.

Why you should pick up your dog's poo

You should always pick up after your dog because:

  • it's the law and you could be fined if you don't pick it up
  • it's common courtesy. Other people don't want to walk in your dog's poo
  • it hosts diseases and parasites which can infect humans and other animals
  • it costs money and takes time to clear it up. Our parks and gardens team have to pick up an average of 15 piles of poo per day
  • it's the top complaint about dogs. More than dog aggression, nuisance barking or unsupervised dogs
  • it causes damage to lawned gardens and parks such as nitrogen burn
  • it pollutes water as it contains high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus
  • dogs can't clean up after themselves

Facts on dog poo
