About the campaign

Some dog owners still don’t pick up after their dog.

This campaign aims to educate people to be responsible owners and always pick up their dog's poo.

Dog owners get a bad name because some don't pick up after their dog.

To help you can:

set the example and always pick up after your dog
put a campaign sticker on your bin if you're happy for bagged up poo to be put in your bin
make sure your dog goes for a poo before you let it off the lead for a run
carry extra poo bags and offer them to others that may need them
avoid walking your dog in playgrounds and on sports pitches
share the message and help to educate others
keep your dog out of fields where cattle graze

You should always pick up after your dog because:

it's the law and you could be fined if you don't pick it up
it's common courtesy. Other people don't want to walk in your dog's poo
it hosts diseases and parasites which can infect humans and other animals
it costs money and takes time to clear it up. Our parks and gardens team have to pick up an average of 15 piles of poo per day
it's the top complaint about dogs. More than dog aggression, nuisance barking or unsupervised dogs
it causes damage to lawned gardens and parks such as nitrogen burn
it pollutes water as it contains high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus
dogs can't clean up after themselves

Did you know that:

there are over 7,500 licenced dogs in Jersey
each dog produces 79.5 grams of poo a day. That's 221 metric tons, or 35,000 stone, per year
