About the consultation

 Give your views on if:

  • Beautiful Jersey should be formally adopted as Jersey’s anthem
  • Liberation Day, 9 May, should be adopted as Jersey's national day

Jersey's anthem

While God Save the King is our national anthem, the Island itself does not have an officially recognised anthem of its own. This has led to confusion about which piece of music should be played at certain events.

An anthem symbolises national identity and fosters pride and unity. The Jersey Anthem would be played at sporting events and cultural ceremonies, locally and internationally.

Beautiful Jersey has been suggested as it is already played at sporting events and taught in some schools.

National day

Liberation Day is seen by many as Jersey’s national day, but 9 May has never been officially agreed as such by the States Assembly.

Official recognition would not change the way Liberation Day is commemorated, but it would help other jurisdictions to understand the importance of 9 May to Islanders, and the story of The Occupation.

What will happen after the survey

The results of this survey will be published and used to determine whether the States Assembly are asked to formally adopt the Jersey anthem and national day.
