Summary
Every year activities involving forklift truck (FLT) operations result in serious accidents and injuries in Jersey. By the nature of the work FLT operators carry out high-risk work, often in unfamiliar or changing environments and without direct supervision.
The existing ‘‘Safe use of rider-operated lift trucks: Approved Code of Practice’ (ACoP) came into force on 22 November 2001 and, whilst still reflecting the principles of good practice, is overdue a revision to reflect current practice and changes to the typical use of FLTs in the workplace.
Whilst retaining the over-riding principles, in developing the draft ACoP the Health and Safety Inspectorate (HSI) has taken into account authoritative guidance published by the UK HSE and relevant representative industry bodies, as well as intelligence gained through investigating FLT accidents and visiting workplaces where FLTs are used in Jersey and discussions with a range of local training providers and employers.
The HSI is now inviting interested stakeholders to comment on the draft ACoP. All responses will be fully considered and taken into account by the Minister for Social Security when deciding on the best way to proceed.

You do not need to use the questionnaire in your response, however using the questionnaire will help us consider and analyse all the responses received.
The consultation is seeking views on the content of the draft document, not the design or formatting which will be finalised once the consultation is complete.
