The current Passport to Safety scheme does not reflect the requirements of the new ‘Management in Construction (Jersey) Regulations 2016’, so the Health and Safety Inspectorate will no longer recognise the scheme as providing evidence of up to date knowledge of basic health and safety standards.
Employers and all other people working in construction must ensure that they, and their employees, are provided with adequate information, instruction and training on the minimum health and safety requirements.
Current holders of Passport to Safety cards or certificates will therefore need to get an appropriate level of knowledge and understanding of the new Regulations, relevant to the work they carry out and the risks involved, in order to meet the minimum legal requirements.
The current Passport to Safety scheme was introduced by the Jersey Building and Allied Trades Employers’ Federation in 2007 to provide a basic level of health and safety awareness to construction workers.
The Health and Safety Inspectorate understands that the industry is in discussions regarding the launch of a new, updated version of Passport to Safety, which will reflect current standards.
