Yes, if they work. Earnings range from £4.00 to £30.00 per week, depending on the type of work.

In order to answer this question completely the applicant would need to have been more specific however, broadly speaking, prisoners have access to:

• medical facilities such as doctors, dentists, opticians and other specialised medical professionals

• physical education consisting of gym and team games

• education facilities where prisoners are able to access courses from NVQ to degree level

• variety of vocational training

• library services

• resettlement advice and help including psychological counselling, substance misuse counselling, financial advice

• employment and social security advice

Possessions outside of the prison are the individual’s responsibility.

All female prisoners are housed on a separate wing from male prisoners. Within the male prisoner population they can then be segregated by Young Offenders and Vulnerable Prisoners Unit. The use of solitary confinement is for serious misconduct against prison rules, for example an assault.
