Hospitalisation of under 10 year olds (FOI)

Please provide me with, for each of the most recent five years;

A

i) The five most common reasons children under 10 have required hospital treatment in Jersey (eg asthma, broken bones, appendicitis and so on)

ii) The number of cases of each of the above treated each year in Jersey's hospital

iii) The age of youngest child treated for each of the above

If not included in the top five reasons, please also provide the number of children under 10 requiring hospital treatment for tooth decay in Jersey each year for the past five years.

And as above the age of the youngest child who's needed hospital treatment for tooth decay.

i) and ii) The tables below highlight the top five diagnosis codes for patients under 10 years of age treated (in the emergency department, the day surgery unit or the in-patient ward), by year.

iii) This question cannot be answered due to the risk of patient identification and is considered absolutely exempt under Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 (the Law).

Dental caries (decay) is included in each of the inpatient tables above. The youngest patient cannot be displayed due to the risk of patient identification and is considered absolutely exempt under Article 25 of the Law.

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
