Request

How much money have Jersey Police made from charging organisations for policing events in Jersey over the past three years?

Could you break this down by year and event.

Response

Over the last three years, the States of Jersey Police have not charged any organisation for the policing of an event.

That said, legislation enabling the States of Jersey Police to charge for such events has recently been enacted. The States of Jersey Police Force (Jersey) Law 2012 and the States of Jersey Police (Amendment No 2) Law 2017 refers.

States of Jersey Police Force (Jersey) Law 2012

The States of Jersey Police understand the impact that this new legislation may have on some events and has therefore committed to a period of consultation before any such charges are introduced in the future. The consultation will describe the process to be adopted when considering whether or not a particular event should attract a charge for policing and will involve all interested parties.

The consultation process will commence in the near future. It will include guidelines issued by the Minister (Amendment No 2) – these take into account guidelines on charging for police services issued by the National Police Chiefs’ Council of the United Kingdom.
