With the constant use of large tractors on the main roads;
How many tractors have been stopped and checked for red diesel in the past 12 months?
And, if any how many had red diesel in their tanks?
Response
The States of Jersey do not check tractor tanks for red diesel as they are legally entitled to use it subject to the conditions listed in para 5(b) of the Excise Duty (Relief and Drawback) (Jersey) Order 2000, which can be located through the following link:
Excise Duty (Relief and Drawback) (Jersey) Order 2000
Tractors can use red diesel for propulsion on a public road where the use of the vehicle is incidental to its main use, for example moving between fields, transporting produce.
The States of Jersey Police have recorded no prosecutions for illegal use of red diesel within the time frame requested.
