Request
What percentage of children on the Island suffer from asthma and other respiratory type diseases?
Response
The numbers of people with asthma are taken from Statistics Jersey’s recently published ‘Health conditions and multi morbidity report 2018’, the associated population data from Statistics Jersey’s population projections.
Health conditions and multi morbidity report
As explained in the report, asthma is one of the twelve health conditions that come under the Jersey Quality Improvement Framework (JQIF). Patients in Jersey that have asthma are recorded as such by their GP on the GP central server. These numbers were utilised in the report – with data being drawn from 31 December 2017.
Using the figures for all children aged 5 to 15, the overall percentage with asthma at the end of 2017 was 4.8%.
Counts of those with asthma have been rounded to the nearest 5 and suppressed where less than five to avoid statistical disclosure of individuals.
