Could you please provide a response to each question for the years (inclusive January December) 2014 to 2018.

How many incidents of Adolescent to Parent Violence and/or Abuse (APVA) were recorded by your police force?

How many of these incidents led to a formal caution of the adolescent?

How many of these incidents led to a criminal prosecution of the adolescent?

What was the age of the youngest offender involved in an incident of Adolescent to Parent Violence and / or Abuse?

The States of Jersey Police began to record this offence specifically from 2017 onwards. Previously, offences were recorded as an assault and therefore results prior to 2016 may not include every event.

Almost all cases resulted in intervention by the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH).

In Jersey, Formal Cautions are administered by the Honorary Police in the local Parish Hall.

In 2015, one case led to a criminal prosecution where the adolescent was sentenced to 12 months’ probation.

In 2016 one matter was referred to the Youth Court where the subject received a binding over order for six months.

In 2017, five cases were dealt with at the Parish Hall by way of caution, three cases were dealt with at Youth or Magistrates court with probation for between six and nine months.

In 2018 no cases went to court or Parish hall although two matters are still under investigation.

The youngest assailants were 12 years old. None of these cases went to court or Parish Hall.
