Please advise the current requirements to establish a recognised Taxi-Cab Company and also the timescale to obtain ministerial approval.

B

Also please advise what information and documentation the DVS require from all current recognised Taxi-Cab Companies, either on a regular basis or to be held for access on demand by DVS.

C

Also advise who owns each of the current recognised Taxi-Cab Companies.

A

Applicants are required to provide the following information in order to establish a Recognised Taxi-Cab Company:

  • confirmation that the Company has a Business Licence to provide taxi services, in accordance with requirements of the Control of Housing and Work (Jersey) Law 2012 Issued by the population office

  • confirmation of the business / company name registered with the Jersey Financial Service Commission (JFSC)

  • company contact details for use by customers.

  • details of how the Company intend to record journey information and how the Company will comply with the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

  • details of the Company’s proposed complaints process

  • number of drivers to be affiliated to the Company at inception.

  • a business case of how the Company will operate plus any supporting information considered appropriate by applicant. The Inspector of Motor Traffic may request additional information if insufficient information is provided.

The information will be collated and a draft Ministerial Decision presented to the Minister for Infrastructure for consideration. The timescale for the preparation of the Ministerial Decision documentation will be dependant of the timely supply of the information by the applicant and the Ministerial Decision will usually be signed within two weeks dependent upon the availability of the Minister.

DVS require that all Registered Taxi Companies be able to provide the following information upon request:

  • any changes to the management of the company

  • company pre-booked fares

  • licence plate numbers of affiliated drivers

  • customer journey details

  • company complaints log

  • lost property log for any personnel effects left in vehicles

C.

The Government of Jersey does not hold the Company owner details since DVS only request evidence that the Company is registered with the JFSC.
