Request
How much time and money has been spent on answering Freedom of Information (FOI) requests since you started to accept them. Can this be broken down by year and month with the numbers of requests as well?
Response
We do not hold all of the information you have requested.
The Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 came into effect on 1 January 2015.
The Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been one of several drivers for the States to review how information is managed, stored, accessed and made available within the States of Jersey.
Staff involved with FOI work have spent a large amount of time improving the records management, data security, data management, proactive publishing of information and providing information management training in business areas to prepare for the 1 January 2015 law implementation.
Legal and regulatory support has also been provided by staff.
In 2015, this information work continues but staff now also respond to FOI requests.
The number of requests received from January to June is listed in the table below.
January | 94 |
February | 62 |
March | 80 |
April | 48 |
May | 47 |
June | 51 |
TOTAL | 382 |
To date, we do not hold the cost of responding to individual Freedom of Information requests although we plan to complete a costing exercise on the request handling process to access the financial impact on departments in the second half of 2015.
