Request

A.

Is personal information sent to feeder school, and if so how? Would this be by common transfer file (CTF)?

B.

Is consent needed to pass on levels and behaviour information from year 6 to a new school?

C.

If a child leaves during a school year what information is sent and how? Is consent needed for that?

Response

A.

Education, Sport and Culture (ESC) manage the admissions procedure on behalf of schools and supply a list to all Year 6 schools that outlines their students’ destination schools.

CTF files are used but there are also manual records to transfer. The process for transfer at Year 6 to Year 7 also sees the most current workbook for literacy and numeracy passed to the destination school.

B.

Some schools request consent. However, ESC consider the transfer of a child’s information from feeder to destination school as a public function and it can also be in the child’s vital interest therefore consent is not essential.

C.

Schools, once made aware of the destination school that the child is transferring to will transfer the information, which should be requested by the receiving school. It is sent by recorded delivery if off island or by secure means if on island.

Consent is not required.
