Request

A

Are people involved in going into primary schools to support reading with students DBS checked?

B

Are people invited to support teachers helping out on school trips, such as other parents DBS checked?

Response

A

The Every Child Our Future volunteers are required to be DBS checked. This is explained in the FAQ in the attached volunteer guide:

Every Child Our Future volunteer guide

B

The policy states that only people with enhanced DBS checks can accompany groups on residential or off-Island visits. A parent or volunteer who was helping on a school trip on a one-off basis would not usually meet the eligibility requirements for an enhanced DBS check as they would be supervised at all times by staff with enhanced DBS checks.
