Request

A

How many cases of measles have been recorded in Jersey each year for the past 10 years? (Up to and including any cases in 2019)

B

What proportion of children have had the routine MMR vaccination before the age of two each year for the past 10 years

C

What proportion of children have had the second MMR booster vaccination before starting school, each year for the past 10 years

Response

A

To date (as of 5 August 2019), there have been fewer than five laboratory confirmed measles cases in the period 2009 to 2019 inclusive. Due to the small number Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied in order to protect the privacy of individuals.

B

The proportion of children who had the routine MMR vaccination before the age of two each year for the past 10 years is shown in table 1.

Table 1 – Definition:

All children resident in Jersey who received one dose of MMR on or after their first birthday and at any time up to their second birthday as a percentage of all children whose second birthday falls within the time period.

*During 2010, vaccinations that historically used to happen during reception year in school were transferred to Primary Care to enable children to receive the pre-school booster and 2nd MMR vaccinations free of charge in GP surgeries at the recommended age of 3 years 4 months. Those unvaccinated cohorts who were already older than 3 years 4 months at that time were vaccinated in a catch-up programme.

Retrospective analysis performed on 5 August 2019 of these cohorts demonstrates the percentages of children who received the booster MMR dose before their fifth birthday as per the national recommendation:

1 January to 31 December 2009 79.4% DOB 1 January to 31 December 2004

1 January to 31 December 2010 84.3% DOB 1 January to 31 December 2005
