Request

How many families in Jersey are actively engaged with Family Support Workers? And how many children does this affect?

Response

Within the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills there are two teams of Family Support Workers providing different functions:

Children’s Service Family Support Workers:

Family support workers in Children’s Services work alongside social workers to provide support to families where there are concerns a child may be in need, at risk of significant harm or where they may be at risk of becoming a child looked after.

As of 1 December 2019, this team were engaged with 75 families, a total of 113 children

Parenting and Family Support Workers:

These family support workers are part of the Inclusion and Early Intervention section. This means they are accessible to families who may need some help and support but are not in need of a social worker. This team work to prevent crisis within families and / or problems becoming so bad or entrenched that statutory intervention is needed.

As of 22 November 2019, this team were engaged with 80 families, a total of 192 children.
