Request
How many formal complaints relating to defective rented properties and which resulted in a visit by an Environmental Health officer were made to Environmental Health (or its precursor) in each of 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019?
Response
The Public Health and Safety (Rented Dwellings – Minimum Standards and Prescribed Hazards) (Jersey) Order 2018 relating to minimum standards in rented dwellings came into effect on 1 December 2018.
We are only in a position to provide information relating to the number of complaints relating to defective rented dwellings that resulted in a visit from Environmental Health from that date onwards.
December 2018; 15 complaints received of which 12 generated visits.
1 January 2019 to 4 December 2019 - 229 complaints received of which 185 generated visits.
Prior to 1 December 2018 informal visits may have been undertaken on request but there was no legal framework in place to formally record these visits.
