Request
A
Please could you explain why the hats in the blue light services are gender specific.
The custodian hat can be worn by everyone can it not?
Why do you not see male officers with the bowler hat like the female officers?
B
Please advise what hats are worn by each service and gender.

This information is not held.
The Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 requires a scheduled public authority to publish a response (with exceptions) to requests made to the authority, for information held by the authority. The authority is not required to publish opinion or reasoning, only information held.

Police officers have a choice of headgear for normal patrol duties. Male PC’s and sergeants wear a helmet for foot patrol and a flat cap for driving duties. Females wear the ‘Bowler’ type hat. For public order duties, unisex riot helmets are issued.
All uniform matters are subject to review by the internal police clothing group.
The States of Jersey Ambulance Service staff are no longer issued with dress uniform, and so do not wear hats of any type. The only member of staff who is issued a uniform hat is the Chief Ambulance Officer who wears the male variant.
States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service caps are issued to all firefighters at the rank of station commander and above, so they may be suitably attired for special events, ceremonies, high level meetings etc. If a firefighter below the rank of Station Commander is required to attend such meetings or represent the service, a cap would be purchased or provided form the clothing store. States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service caps are not gender specific and, as such, caps for both male and female firefighters are the same.
