The patients were transferred to appropriate other clinical areas dependant on need speciality e.g. Sandybrook Nursing home and other community facilities.  None required transfer back to the Jersey General Hospital (JGH).

In patient clinical area supported by health care professional multi-disciplinary team.  Historically this facility had been utilised for patients not requiring acute levels of care but varying levels of rehabilitation care and intervention.

£4,150.04 has been spent on such things as appointing a relocation/delivery company, internal touch-up of decorations, new data points and new signage.

The nursing establishment for the ward comprised 27 Whole Time Equivalents (WTE) made up of both full and part time staff, including Registered Nurses (RN’s), Health Care Assistants (HCA’s) and Administration staff. They also had 6 RN unfilled vacancies.

As the Covid pandemic progressed, this large capacity of rehabilitation beds was not required as the activity fell within JGH. Those patients requiring inpatient management, and not suitable for community rehab, were able to be all re-located within JGH.  Community rehabilitation was increased by redeployment of rehabilitation staff to work differently within community areas e.g. patients own homes.

Samares ward, in response to the ongoing major incident status “Special situation Covid-19”, has been deemed fire evacuation contingency for the Nightingale Wing, JGH.

These beds have been based on the standard operating model and pathways that were in place at Samares.

8 RN and 7 HCA, however as from 17th August when the ward moves to Plemont Ward the staffing will increase to 9.5 RNs and 12 HCAs, with an advert pending to employ a further 2 RNs. This is to staff a 14 bed ward.

The amount of rehabilitation beds are under constant review to ensure that patients are receiving the required input and care.

As above, there is a link to the Nightingale Wing, JGH as we remain in major incident “special situation Covid-19”.  It is currently unclear when this capacity will be required and will be related to operational need at any given time.
