Request
Can you tell me how many fish / shellfish catch reports Jersey has requested of the French since the Bay of Granville Agreement entered into force on 1 January 2004, and how many catch reports have the French submitted to Jersey on request, or voluntarily?
Likewise, can you tell me how many fish / shellfish catch reports have the French requested of Jersey since the agreement entered into force on 1 January 2004, and how many have we submitted to the French on request, or voluntarily?
Response
France and Jersey both send and receive catch data through international frameworks such as:
the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES)
food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO)
ecolabelling audits for the Marine Stewardship Council
Data sharing is a requirement of the Granville Bay Agreement (GBA) and information is exchanged each year at regular working groups and ecolabel audit meetings which are held three times a year.
There have been two occasions since 2004 when the Government of Jersey have requested more specific data from France at GBA meetings, however, there have never been any reciprocal requests as Jersey’s catch data is open access and published annually.
