Please can you provide details of the annual cost of the Assisted Reproduction Unit (ARU) in each of the previous five years, including 2020 to date. Please break these down by years.

How many cycles of IVF did the ARU facilitate in 2019 and for a total of how many patients / couples?

Of those IVF cycles in 2019 how many were privately funded by patients and how many were paid for by the government under the means tested existing arrangement?

How many members of staff work for the ARU currently and what are their job titles?

A

The ARU service has been managed under the O&G specialty, therefore the costs of the ARU service alone is not easily identifiable with a high degree of accuracy.

There has been an average of 428 unique patients seen within the service per year. Each unique patient has on average five appointments each.

C and D

Of all activity in 2019, the data currently available indicates that 51% of the patients were public patients receiving lower level fertility treatment, 46% were ‘amenity’ and therefore received government supported funding for treatment ie drugs, investigations and 3% were private.

This suggests that 226 patients received higher level (IVF) treatment in 2019.

There were no patients that fulfilled the means tested criteria for 100% of government funded treatment in 2019.

The ARU service is managed as a speciality of the Women, Children and Family Care Group. Therefore, staff are utilised across the services as necessary. The core staff required to deliver a fertility service in Jersey are as follows:

• laboratory staff
