Request
I would like to make a freedom of information (FOI) request to access the following survey that is held by the Jersey Archives under their reference D/W/M2/12:
"Survey of various types of Pigsty, May 1999, contains; photographs of pigsties and their locations and a brief history of 'The Decline of the Jersey Pigsty'. D/W/M2/12"
I saw this document on the Jersey Archive site but have been told I have to make a FOI request to the Environment Department. I have never done this before so want to do it correctly and am looking for some guidance.
The reason for my request is that I have, for a number of years, been undertaking personal research into Jersey pigsties. The core of my research has involved going door to door to properties, in all parishes, requesting access to owner’s pigsties so that I can record written and photographic details of these buildings. To date I have over 200 records of current and former pigsties in the Island.
To support my survey, I am also researching the history of pigsties and pig rearing in the Island. It would therefore be invaluable to access the documents above.
The brief history of “The Decline of the Jersey Pigsty’ would be of particular interest in my researches and hopefully I would be able to reference this in my work if appropriate.
Response
These records have been reviewed and it has been agreed that they can be opened to the public.
The records can be accessed by visiting Jersey Archive in person as they are currently not available to view on-line.
A viewing appointment can be arranged by contacting Jersey Archive on archives@jerseyheritage.org
