Request
A
How often has the large retractable flood-defence barrier in the Gunsite car park been used since it was installed? In particular the one in the carpark and not the one at the top of the slip way.
B
Is it closed when there is a combination of very high tides and high winds?
C
How many times has this happened and are the public or residents of the area notified in advance?
D
Who is responsible for deciding to close it?
Response
A
The flood gate has been closed three times since being installed in May 2019. The new seawall improvements have reduced overtopping significantly.
B
The barrier is closed when Jersey Met Office issue a severe weather warning combined with spring tides which exceed 36ft.
C
Please refer to response A above. The only resident notified if the gate is closing is the house next to the toilet block as they have vehicular access to their property.
D
The decision to close the gate is made by a Government of Jersey Duty Officer, Assistant Manager, Chargehand or labourer on duty at the time.
