Police time and costs dealing with cannabis related crime (FOI)

Police time and costs dealing with cannabis related crime (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 03 November 2015.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

A.

Total police man hours used in, including but not limited to, detection, investigation, arrest, prosecution, including any other man hours spent in policing and in any way dealing with cannabis in Jersey.

B.

The overall amount the police force spends on dealing with cannabis, and cannabis related crime.

Response

The States of Jersey Police do not hold the information requested.

It would not be possible to research every incident involving cannabis that the States Police have dealt with.

Each incident would require in depth analysis of every officer’s involvement, time spent and associated costs.

To do this for one, three month period, would cost more than the £500 limit imposed by the Freedom of Information (Costs)(Jersey) Regulations 2014 (12.5 hours work).

The Freedom of Information Law does not require scheduled authorities to create information, but to release information it already holds.

The requestor may glean some information on the level of time and effort cannabis enquiries cost the States of Jersey Police compared to other criminal activity by referring to the published police annual reports.
