On 26 May 2021 the Government published the numbers of hospital-employed consultants (employed for 12 months or more on any type of contract, full time or part time) who resigned or left their posts for any reason (excluding retirement). See the following link:
Resignations and retirements of Consultants and Nurses (FOI)
Inconsistency of the staff seeing patients was listed as one of the reasons for increasing number of complaints by JEP (26 June 2021).
I would like to understand the relative magnitude of resignations as a percentage of the total number of consultants employed on 12+ months contracts as well as the key reasons for the resignations.
A
Can you please provide the total number of hospital-employed consultants employed for 12 months or more on any type of contract, full time or part time at the beginning of each calendar year listed above and the information on the percentage of consultants resigning each year.
B
Can you please provide the numbers of consultants who had their formal exit interview carried in each of the years above (as per the recommendations of HR Lounge Report of February 2018 published by Bailiwick Express on 14 August 2020 ‘Does the government still have a bullying problem?’ and 27 January 2021 ‘New review to investigate harassment and bullying in Government’)?
C
Please provide information on medical staff surveys carried out in 2019, 2020 and 2012, if any.
D
Please provide a number of new bullying / harassment investigations within Health (concerning all staff within HCS) for 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 year to date.
Response
A
Year | Total number of hospital employed Consultants for 12 months or more on any type of contract Headcount (January) | Leavers Within Year | Leaver % |
2018 | 108 | 7 | 6.5% |
2019 | 146 | 8 | 5.5% |
2020 | 153 | 13 | 8.5% |
2021 | 154 | 10 | 6.5% |
B
Out of the above leavers only one completed the central Government of Jersey exit interview form.
C
The only formally commissioned survey was the Be Heard survey, however that was circulated to all staff, not just medical staff.
D
During the period 2018 to 2021 there have been less than five bullying and harassment cases. Due to the small number of cases, disclosure control has been applied to avoid breaching the privacy of individuals involved. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has therefore been applied.
Article applied
