Request
That Jersey should ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) was a primary recommendation of the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry.
Has this been done? If so, can you point me to the appropriate legislation or ministerial decisions.
If it has been ratified, was it done so unconditionally, or were there any limitations, restrictions or opt-outs as to how it was ratified by Jersey?
Response
The information requested is available on the websites of the Government of Jersey and the United Nations and therefore falls under Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 because it is accessible by other means.
The United Kingdom’s ratification of the UNCRC, together with two of its Optional Protocols, was extended to the Bailiwick of Jersey on 29 April 2014:
The following pages of the United Nations Treaty Collection Depositary website provide the dates of signature, ratification, acceptance, accession and succession for the UNCRC and its Optional Protocols, together with details of the declarations, reservations and objections made by state parties.
