Request
How many recorded deaths were there in Jersey over the past 10-years broken down annually including 2021, and how many of these deaths were suicide?
Response
The total number of registered deaths are reported annually by the Superintendent Registrar in her Annual Statement. The Annual Statements for 2012 to 2020 can be found on www.gov.je therefore Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.
Office of the Superintendent Registrar
The Annual Statement for 2021 will be available within the next seven days. As the information is intended for future publication, Article 36 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.
The most recent figures on suicides are currently for 2019. Data is in arrears as deaths suspected to be by suicide need to have completed the inquest process before the cause of death is confirmed. Statistics on completed suicides in Jersey are published annually by Statistics Jersey in the Jersey Mortality report. The information is accessible by other means therefore Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.
