Request

Is art used as a form of therapy in Jersey? If so, where is it used?

I'd like to know whether it is used within mental health settings, care homes, hospital, social services, education (primary, secondary, further and special education) and secure units such as La Moye, Greenfields, Orchard House?

Additionally, I would like to know whether this vocation is needed in Jersey?

As the NHS have implemented art therapy for a number of year's especially for a vast array of ages / conditions with positive impact.

HMP La Moye

Whilst there is no specific Art Therapy function, art is accessible by application to prisoners in La Moye

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its main mode of expression and communication. Art therapists / art psychotherapists use art as a medium to address a range of emotional issues. As a therapy suitable for a vast array of ages and conditions, it is proven to have a positive impact on outcomes.

The Health and Community Services' Mental Health care group is looking to employ an art / drama / music therapist to work across inpatient and community mental health teams.

Children, Young People, Education and Skills, which includes schools, colleges, Children's Social Care and CAMHS, do have plans to develop an approved provider framework for approved creative therapist to work with children and families.

HMP La Moye has provided Art Therapy in the past and would be keen to explore opportunities in the future to support and develop the 7 Pathways to Reducing Reoffending
