Request
How many people are currently NEETS (not in employment, education and training) in Jersey.
If possible please provide how many of those are in the following age groups:
16-18
18-24
25-34
Additionally, if possible, please confirm how many people became NEETS during the Covid-19 pandemic (i.e., from March 2021 to date).
Response
Each year the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills run a report of young people aged between 16 to 18 years old, who have left school and are not registered with an educational establishment. These individuals are then contacted by Skills Jersey to identify if they are currently in employment or training, and to offer support and careers guidance.
In 2021, 46 individuals aged 16 to 18 were identified as NEET. As of March 2022, 10 individuals aged 16 to 18 have been identified as NEET.
The number of individuals recorded as NEET each year will not always be a complete representation, as individuals can sometimes be uncontactable and therefore not identified. Individuals can also drop out of employment or training at a later date and may not be identified unless they are engaged with a service.
The information requested relating to the 18 to 34 age group is not held in recorded form. Under the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 departments are not required to undertake manipulation or create new data sets to provide a response. Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.
