Plans to move facilities from La Collette and moving towards renewable energy (FOI)

With the JEC, fuel farm, TTS etc all located at La Collette, this site is extremely vulnerable. Add to that the fact that asbestos is stored down there and the potential disaster that would occur if there were ever an explosion in that area, may I ask if the SOJ is considering moving any or all of this to an area further from town ?

If this is the case, may I ask what is in planning to move and where to?

C.

Also may I please ask if the SOJ are considering moving towards renewable energy in the near future and, if so, what are they proposing and what time scale are they working to?

There are no short, or long, term plans to move any of the existing facilities located at La Collette to an area further from town or any other part of the Island. Coordination of safety issues at La Collette is managed by the La Collette Hazard Review Group which is chaired by the Department for Infrastructure (formerly Transport and Technical Services). The group includes representatives from all business and stakeholders of the La Collette area, the Emergency Services and the Health and Safety Inspectorate. The Hazard Review Group is happy with the management of risks and safety in the La Collette areas.

The Energy Plan for Jersey, Pathway 2050, sets out a long term energy plan for Jersey. The Plan was adopted by the States Assembly in May 2014, P38/2014.

Links to the Energy Plan and year one progress report are provided. The plan contains a number of action statements which relate to use of renewable energy for domestic micro renewables scale through to utility scale offshore generation.

The year one progress report provides a summary of progress to date on these.
