Request
Since the inception of the rental deposit protection scheme how many deposits have been paid, in full or in part, to landlords due to the tenant not responding to communications from My Deposits Jersey?
Please provide the number paid in full, the number partly paid and the total amount.
Response
When a tenant has vacated a property either the landlord / agent or tenant can initiate the deposit release process by submitting a Deposit Release Request Form (the 'Form') to Mydeposits Jersey.
In situations where a landlord / agent has submitted the Form, in which they identify how the deposit should be split, along with reasons for any deductions from the amount returned to tenants, Mydeposits Jersey will then notify the tenant by email, text or mail, utilising the contact details provided or those which are currently held.
The tenant then has 14 days to respond and agree to the split suggested by the landlord / agent or dispute the split and go to dispute resolution.
However, if the tenant fails to respond within the timeframe the deposit will be refunded in line with the request from the landlord / agent.
The following table details the information requested from the scheme's inception in 2015 to date, showing the figures for the situations where a landlord / agent has initiated the process but there has been no response from the tenant.
Deposits released to Agents/Landlords as at 17 October 2022 |

In full | 962 | 859,534 |
Partial | 119 | 60,120 |
