Civil defence measures in case of nuclear attack (FOI)

Please give details of civil defence measures you are taking in regards of informing residents of Jersey on safety measures to now use in case of a nuclear attack in Europe or UK. 

The situation is now very real and needs urgent addressing like many other countries are undertaking, and actively giving out information with posters and iodine tablets.

I do not feel that any more research needs to be done on this matter and the Government needs to now place information available before it is too late if something would occur in Europe or the UK and we are faced with radiation fall out. 

I do not feel a response of "we are monitoring it" as sufficient, nor do many concerned members of the public.

The Emergencies Council, the body with responsibility for emergency planning in Jersey, bases all of its emergency planning and capability development on a Community Risk Register.  This uses good practice from the United Kingdom as a guide as to which risks should be planned for.   While war and acts of war would give rise to an emergency were its effects to impact on Jersey, there is, in common with Local Resilience Forum areas elsewhere in the UK, no local plan dealing with the use and impact of nuclear war.   However, Jersey takes all nuclear and radiological matters very seriously, and has a standing Radiation Advisory Group which is mandated to review all matters of this nature that could reasonably affect the island.
