Defective vehicles (FOI)

I have used the defective vehicle reporting form a number of times in the past 6 months and would like to know if it is worth continuing to do so. The information that will help me and other members of the public in making this decision relates to actions taken as a result of defective vehicle reporting.

For the past 6 months I would like to know:
1. How many vehicles have been reported as defective via

2. Per category of defect how many were reported
3. How many vehicles were subsequently inspected
4. How many vehicles were inspected and found to be faulty
5. How many vehicles were re-tested following a fix by the owner if found faulty
6. Given the number of miles covered and potential risk to third parties is there any different timescale for testing applied to taxis or other public vehicles

6. PSV’s (public service vehicles), which include taxis, are subject to an annual “certificate of fitness” inspection ensuring that they are clean and roadworthy.

The majority of defective vehicles reported were dealt with by way of a telephone call. These were mainly relating to faulty lights and brake lights reports. It is however recorded that no “defect notices” were generated as a result of these reports.

The data gathered from the defective vehicle reporting web page is collated and used to structure the numerous road checks that are coordinated with the 12 parish authorities, States of Jersey Police and the customs department each year. It also acts as a useful tool to give direction to road safety campaigns.
