A

A total of 133 patients returned to hospital within 48 hours of discharge in 2022. Admission within 48 hours of a previous discharge does not implicitly reflect a “bad” discharge.

Re-admissions were included in the count even if the patient was admitted to a differing ward or specialty than the first admission, e.g. discharged from Medical, but re-admitted to Surgical. The analysis considered emergency inpatient admissions to Jersey General Hospital (JGH) only. Day units, Maternity and patients admitted under an Oncology or Obstetrics specialty were excluded, as patients in these areas and specialties regularly require emergency admission.
