Request
I have visited the Broad Street offices twice for meetings, once in February and once in March and on both occasions all three lifts to meeting rooms on upper floors were out of order.
A
Which company services the lifts and why has it taken so long to repair them?
B
Are the lifts all now in operation?
At the heart of the Disability Discrimination Law is the new duty to make reasonable adjustments. Having three lifts out of order would seem to breach this provision.
Response
A and B
The company Kone service the lifts in the Broad Street office.
The table below contains the requested information.
Broad Street Office lifts |
Lift | Comment
|
Front Lift | Lift permanently out of service. This lift cannot be repaired since the replacement parts required to service the lift are no longer available. |
Middle lift | Lift currently out of service.
The repairs cannot be carried out until the required replacement parts have been received and will be attended to as a matter of priority. |
Rear lift (Commercial Street end of building) | Lift in working order

It should be noted that the Government of Jersey does have meeting rooms on the ground floor of Broad Street offices and endeavours are made to use these, where possible, for meetings with external parties.
