Request

With reference to the States of Jersey Eat Safe Website –

Food safety and hygiene star ratings (Eat Safe) (gov.je)

It cannot be missed that some food outlets with a low score of two out of five appear to make no effort to improve their rating, as some have remained unchanged for some time. It also questions why in some cases food outlets are allowed to carry on operating.

Please explain the purpose of this website has if food outlets choose to ignore it?

Response

The information requested is exempt under Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 as it is accessible on www.gov.je as detailed in the request.

It should be noted that the purpose of the website is to inform the public regarding the current Eat Safe rating.

The Environmental and Consumer protection team carry out regular inspections on food businesses and it is the responsibility of the outlet to maintain or improve their standard.
