Request

As someone who can’t get employment due to being on LTIA and the States refusing to make it illegal to discriminate against disabled / invalids, how many people does the States employ who are on Long Term Invalid Allowance or are classed as disabled (physical or psychological)?

Response

Through the introduction of the Discrimination Law Jersey, the States of Jersey will address disability as a protected characteristic from 2017 / 8, subject to the regulations being approved.

Unfortunately, we are unable to identify staff who are on LTIA (Long Term Incapacity Allowance).

However, we can provide headcount and FTE (full-time equivalent) figures showing staff who have provided information as to whether they have a disability or not.

We are unable to provide information about whether it is psychological or physical, or just whether they class themselves as having a disability.

DisabilityFTEHeadcount
Unavailable3,903.44,414
No2,179.52,497
Yes41.447
Grand total6,124.36,958

The information shown above is accurate as of 28 February 2015.

The above information was only collected on new employees from 2007 onwards.

There is a plan to conduct a data validation exercise for all States of Jersey employees during 2016 which will improve the data quality for this characteristic.
