A

Infrastructure & Environment within the Government of Jersey authorised Vivacity to come to the island and install smart camera sensors.

B

Specialist AI Road Space User equipment was installed. VivaCity Labs Limited installed 6 x AI sensors which process blurred-at-source video data locally on the device, and only transmits anonymised traffic data. The sensors are required to look at the effects of a new one-way system on traffic flows and congestion around St Helier.

The sensors operate 24 hours every day and the details of how they operate is already in the public domain and can be found via the link below:

The six AI sensor locations are listed below:

  1. Queens Rd (near Rouge Bouillon Roundabout / Undercliffe Road)
  2. Parade Rd (near Elizabeth Lane)
  3. St John's Rd (near Parade Road)
  4. Westmount Rd (near Peirson Road)
  5. St John's Rd (near Tower Road)
  6. Rouge Bouillon Rd (near Norfolk Lodge Hotel/Brighton Lane)

The data collected will assist with classified traffic counts, vehicle and pedestrian tracks, occupancy and turning counts.

The AI sensor data will be collected 24/7 for the full week covering a typical weekday and a weekend day (Saturday or Sunday).

The sensors will be used to count and monitor the aggregated movements of following modes of transport:

  1. Car
  2. Pedestrian 
  3. Cyclist 
  4. Motorbike
  5. Bus
  6. OGV1 (small truck)
  7. OGV2 (large truck)
  8. LGV (work van)

The sensor captures blurred images of the road space and uses software to extract anonymous data from the image (for example, there is a pedestrian here, and a cyclist here).

Six AI sensors have been purchased by Infrastructure & Environment from VivaCity Labs Limited. They have been installed and maintained by VivaCity for a 12 month duration after which they will become an asset. Their use will not be limited to the project in question and are a general traffic surveying asset.
