Request

A

Please confirm how many road traffic accidents there have been on La Grande Route de St Martin, between the junction at Fosse L’Ecrivan and Rue Du Trot (Midland Stores) for the previous 10 years.

B

Please advise if the frequency of accidents is now enough to class it as an accident black spot?

Response

A

In the last 10 years, between the junction at La Fosse a l’Ecrivan, and the junction at La Rue du Trot (Midland Stores), a total of 24 road traffic collisions, of which 7 involved personal injury, have been reported to the States of Jersey Police.

It is often impossible to determine the exact locations of minor collisions from details received as in many cases callers cannot be more precise. Any road traffic incidents where the exact location cannot be confirmed to be somewhere between these two junctions have been excluded from the numbers above.

B

The Infrastructure and Environment Department have determined that no individual groups of injury collisions on this section of road would be classified as a cluster site (or black spot).

It is worth noting that as a result of two serious collisions at the junction with Fosse L’Ecrivain, a number of measures have been identified for this junction, including improved warning signing, the hedge being cut back, and the wall being lowered on one side to improve visibility for vehicles emerging from the junction.

These measures are currently being introduced with the support of the Parish and the landowner of the field adjacent to the junction.
