Q1. Why are teachers asked to work for free by way of "extra curricular" activities? 

Are there schools that pay staff for this provision?

If so list the schools.

Q2. Are other government departments asked to work for "free" or is there extra time given in lieu?

Response

A1. It is not possible to provide this information as it is not recorded in a reportable format, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.  However, we can provide the following information: 

There is no specific provision in teachers' contracts that mandates them to undertake extracurricular activities. Each school will establish its own arrangements for providing such activities, depending on the age and stage of pupils and in agreement with the relevant staff.

A2. It is not possible to provide this information as it is not recorded in a reportable format, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.  However, we can provide the following information:

The Government of Jersey promotes flexible working and therefore areas can use 'time off in lieu' and other flexible working arrangements to provide capacity for services to compensate employees for additional time worked.
