Response
This request has been answered by the Health and Social Services Department and the Social Security Department.
A and B
The response is provided in the tables below.
The first table shows the quantity and cost of paracetamol dispensed by primary care, ie GP prescriptions dispensed at pharmacies.
The second table shows paracetamol used by the Health and Social Services Department, ie ward stock at the General Hospital and Overdale Hospital etc.
It is not possible to provide the number of prescriptions issued within the hospital as this information is not held.
Paracetamol is widely used for inpatients and is held as stock on wards and departments so only the total quantity used can be provided.

C
The unit price of a tablet is commercially sensitive and is therefore exempt under Article 33 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2012. However, the total overall cost of paracetamol has been provided in the tables above.
Community pharmacies are reimbursed at the same price as pharmacies in England and Wales, and this price varies from month to month. For a box of 100 paracetamol 500mg tablets, the reimbursement price in July 2016 was £2.31.
