The costs incurred by the Department for Infrastructure (formerly TTS) in assisting with the clean-up after the two Battle of Flowers events each year (August and December), over and above its normal public cleaning responsibilities, are recorded and invoiced to the Battle of Flowers Association (BoFA) in line with pre-agreed response levels.
For the five-year period 2011 to 2015 these recovered costs total £4,683.76. The work undertaken in August 2016 is in the process of being invoiced but is estimated to be in the order of £1,000.
No additional staff are employed by the Department for Infrastructure in carrying out this work which, in the main, relates to the use of mechanical sweeping machines. For many years the BoFA has employed its own contractors for the majority of the post-Battle of Flowers clean-up operations.
