What was the total cost to the public purse of the senatorial by-election on 7 September 2016 including in particular the total cost of the vote.je campaign, the postal and pre-poll voting arrangements and payments to be made to the 12 parishes to cover the cost of running the election?

Initial costs incurred by the States Greffe in relation to the Senatorial by-election were provided in the previously published response to the Freedom of Information request ‘Senatorial by-election costs (FOI)’ available below.

These costs have now been updated with additional information and are detailed in the table below:

A number of other costs will be incurred by the States Greffe and Judicial Greffe as a result of the Senatorial by-election.
However, full details of these costs will not be known until all expense claims and invoices have been submitted and processed.
We would therefore advise that you submit another Freedom of Information request in late February 2017 when all costs should be finalised.
For your information, costs still to be finalised include:
- printing and stationery
- hired services (staff)
- hire of premises (polling stations and hustings)
- travel expenses
- provisions
- postage
- telephone
- advertising expenses
- other administrative expenses
