Summary
This is the first report produced by the Public Health Intelligence Unit which examines births and breastfeeding patterns locally.
The births and breastfeeding profile for Jersey, reports on a number of population level indicators including:
number of births locally
births to mothers aged 35 and over
proportion of caesarean sections performed each year
teenage mothers
breastfeeding at birth
breastfeeding at 6 to 8 weeks of age
hospital admissions for certain infectious diseases
infant mortality
Comparisons in this report are to Public Health England and the Department of Health. There is also comparison internationally to the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
All data has been provided by the Health and Social Services Department. The report contains both previously published information and new analyses, with data to 2015.
